John V's Birthday Card
Even the sentiment on the middle panel is from a sheet of vellum quotes I found in the birthday stack of papers.... Hope he likes it...
Blessings and happy crafting!

Tri-Shutter Anniversary Card
Wanted to share this card with you that I made yesterday for my cousin's 50th anniversary. she lives in Canada so I've got to get it in the mail today and took a couple of hurried pics to share with you...
I used a 12x12 sheet from the Mariposa stack of cardstock from DCWV... these are gorgeous designs... the one I chose has a black background with a lot of gold swirled on it and a couple of beautiful blue butterflies and a gold bird...
I just picked the 5.5" swath through the middle of the sheet that I wanted to use for the card base and used some of the leftover to line the envelope...
This photo shows the card, the lined envelope, and a sheet of the cardstock as it appears straight out of the stack... I do not scrapbook but occasionally find a 12x12 stack of paper or cardstock that I like even though many of the designs seem to large to be used for a card... here is a good example of using such a design for your card base... so don't dismiss those patterns too quickly thinking they'd be too big for a card!
Here's a view where you can see the verses a little bit better... I found them all on quotegarden.com and just copied/pasted them each into a Word file (I believe I found them on the wedding and anniversary sections of the site). I changed the font style and size and printed them off on my printer onto a sheet of pearlized blue cardstock that I cut down from 12x12 to 8.5x11.
I matted a few of them with a gold cardstock... some were trimmed using a pair of Fiskars decorative scissors... here's another view from the side so you can see the largest panel in the middle a bit better. Jazzed it up with a lot of bling... in small doses... tiny pearls and a few rhinestones... gotta have a little bling, right?!
My class at Hobby Lobby last night went very well... everyone made a tri-shutter using fall-ish solid color cardstock and a few coordinating prints. I hope to post pics of some of my students' cards for you to see as well.
Have a great day!

One More Baby Shower Tri-Shutter
The base of the card is a pearlized green that's gorgeous (I think)... I used 3 designer papers that I felt coordinated well... some of the trims on it are from a package of narrow, self-adhesive, 12-inch strips called Itsy Bitsy Baby Girl adhesive borders (they come 30 to a pkg for about $4) (from K&Company)... They are great! And then there's Maisy KETTO... isn't she cute?
I used the same verse on the large center panel as the other baby tri-shutter I shared with you last week...

Another Tri-Shutter Card
This is one I made for a very dear friend who recently retired after 20 years at Marshall University... the over-sized felt sunflower is something I found at my new Hobby Lobby when they first opened... there were several in a package and I wish I had bought all the store had! I've used them on several tri-shutters and think they just make the card so special... I attached them with a glue gun since they are a bit bulkier and heavier than the average embellishment...
The sentiment on the center panel reads "a balanced diet is chocolate in each hand"... don't you just love it... I was hoping it implied that I thought she was gonna retire to her sofa, watch tv, and eat bonbons... ; )
I'll share another tri-shutter with you tomorrow... hope you're having a great day!
Blessings and Happy Crafting!

BUSY, BUSY DAY!
The baby shower cards were very similar, the first two almost identical started with a pearlized pink cardstock (ColorBok), used a couple of coordinated patterned designer paper, a little ribbon, a cute brad, some bling and pearls, several strips from a K&Company grouping of baby-themed scrapbooking strips, and one cute sticker.
The other stamp has this wonderful sentiment (God sends His love and joy to earth with every newborn baby's birth) -- I'm very pleased with the finished card... What do you think?

They're coming! They're coming! The VEGGIE TALES are COMING!!!
I can't begin to tell you how excited and honored I am to be designing projects for Dies Direct's new line of Veggie Tales dies for papercrafting! My first couple of projects star Larry (the cucumber) and Bob (the tomato) - just in case you're not familiar with Veggie Tales... you can read about them here on Wikipedia. As a mother and grandmother, I've been a Veggie Tales fan for many years. I am a HUGE fan of their Silly Songs CD... the Cheesburger song being my all-time favorite. My older daughter Claudia (39) can do an awesome imitation of the French Peas... our family loves the good, clean humor (and subtle lessons) that the Veggie Tales provide for our kids and grandkids. If you're not a Veggie Tales fan, you should be... and if you think you can't enjoy that kind of silly humor... you need to lighten up and tray harder!
The first one pictured here is a stand-alone pop-up type card that can serve as a Thanksgiving Day table decoration. It has a short, 4-line blessing on it. There’s a link to the tutorial on the SplitCoast website to construct this particular style of card…. free-standing, pop-up card tutorial. There’s even a video at the end of it that you can watch before you try it yourself… And for additional inspiration, you can also check out the photo gallery of cards made by others here.
The blessing on this card was found on the very useful quotegarden.com website… it reads: “Gather round the table, thank the Lord above, for food, friends and family, and for this feast of love.”
My second Veggie Tale™ creation is a birthday card…the design/construction is one I had been wanting to try for a while but it wasn’t until my grandson received one from a fellow cardmaker while in the hospital for his appendectomy… that I finally tried making one!It was much easier than I thought it would be. I found the tutorial for it here on Splitcoast (it’s called a tri-shutter card), printed out the instructions, and went to town… I think it came out rather well… One of the Veggie Tale™ silly songs is sung by Larry – “Oh Where is My Hairbrush” so I printed out a sentiment from my computer that read: “I was hoping for a new hairbrush for my birthday, how ‘bout you?”… May be a bit corny, but I thought it was funny. I’ve made several more tri-shutters since this first one… one of the nicest things about them is that they are free-standing so I feel they are perhaps enjoyed a little bit longer than the “average” card. If you’d like to see some others for inspiration, check out the gallery on Splitcoast here… tri-shutter gallery.
I hope these get your creative juices flowing with ideas for using the new Veggie Tales dies from Dies Direct.
I'll have some more ideas for you tomorrow!
Blessings,
~Kathy
